I SAID YES!!!!!
Still can’t believe I’m writing this—we’re engaged!!
We were in Napa for a little getaway, and the second day there we had rented out a tuk-tuk (yes, like the ones from Thailand) through a company called Laces & Limos to take us around to different vineyards. Our driver, Lisa, was amazing ...and apparently very good at keeping secrets. We spent the morning at Ru Vango Vineyard, where we had a private tour of the grounds, and I had some of the best Pinot Noir OF MY LIFE. I still dream about it.
Anyway, we had set up a vineyard picnic lunch ahead of the trip as part of the tuk-tuk tour, just something small and cute in the middle of our wine-tasting day. At one point, I casually mentioned to Chad that I’d probably need his help filming a Crocs ad while we were there. He immediately said, “Yeah, let’s do it right now!” which seemed a bit overly enthusiastic thinking about it now LOL. Turns out, he had been looking for an opening to propose! I handed him my phone, turned around to fix something, and when I turned back, he was on one knee.
For a second it felt like time completely stopped. I instantly started crying. He said the sweetest words to me—I honestly don’t even remember exactly what he said because I was so overwhelmed in the moment, but I just remember how full my heart felt. We hugged, popped some champagne, and Lisa was kind enough to take photos for us.
What I didn’t know at the time was that Chad had talked to Lisa (our driver) beforehand and asked if she’d be willing to capture the proposal. She said yes, and somehow managed to help with the proposal without me catching on. I’m forever grateful to her—having it all documented makes it even more special.
It was such a simple, thoughtful moment, and I couldn’t have asked for a more “us” proposal. Just wine, sunshine, and the easiest yes of my life.
